He’s doing better with table foods these days but meal time takes forever.

He's great at restaurants...so far. I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts because we all know that toddlers can be a pain to take out to eat.

I got him signing ‘more’ on video, and every time we say, “good job,” he claps.

We finally had to put a gate at the stairs. Logan heard a smack on the floor and looked over to find Michael on the floor crying. And then he figured out that he climbed up and fell off. So now he only wants to climb the stairs instead of letting us carry him up.

Guinness is very protective of Michael. If Michael is crying, Guinness has to make sure he's okay. If Guinness can't get into Michael's room, he goes to the monitor and pushes it around the table. He gets very concerned and it's the sweetest thing. You can see him here in the bottom of the photo watching over Michael while he naps.

Conversations with Michael:

He cracks us up! He obviously needs a haircut…those bangs are in his eyes!

https://www.youtube.com/embed/z0hk9avTKx8?rel=0“>

Yes, I put a barrette in his hair, just for fun. And no, Logan did not care! This kid has some great hair for a 13 month old.

Time to move up! Testing out car seats— We got this one but a different color. So much research and so expensive. But we are happy with our choice.

We don’t have a babysitter yet. I really need to work on finding one. Logan and I haven’t been on a date without Michael since he was born, and I have to bring him to my appointments. Most of the time he’s really good, but sometimes Logan has to take off work to keep Michael like when I had a root canal. This time we were at the endodontist for just a check-up for my root canal. He was very good and all the ladies loved him. He had a nice view from the windows. And I’d like to add that this was the easiest, fastest, almost zero pain root canal I’ve ever had…and I’ve had a few of them. IMG_9444 IMG_9441

He loves to chase the rugrats…they crack him up!

Michael talks a lot, mostly in his own language, of course. He does have a few words. He loves to look at photos of everyone around the house. He points to every picture in every room and says, “Dada.” He also has a word for Guinness, “Deediss” or “Dees,” which he says in a higher pitched voice just like I do. He says “Dee” for Motly and Scofield. He says Dees in this video:

Happy 37th!

An electrician knocked on the door the morning before Christmas Eve. Logan surprised me with this electrician to install kitchen lights that I’ve wanted since we moved into the house! I was so excited! But I hadn’t picked out any lights. Logan bought some temporary ones that could be returned until I could find something I liked. What he didn’t know was that I already knew what I wanted over the sink and had an idea for over the island. So I went to Home Depot that day and bought my lights. I didn’t want builder bland pendants and I didn’t want super expensive ones either.

I chose white barn light pendants for over the island and a wall gooseneck light for over the sink instead of another pendant. They were both very inexpensive. I’m not “matchy matchy” with anything in my house. Some prefer that all the lights in their kitchen be the same finish or match exactly but I like to mix it up. I think they look fine, and I have light!! Finally!! I walked around the kitchen for two days saying, “It’s like a new kitchen!” Lighting is just so important. If I ever build another house, I’ll do things very different.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

IMG_0517

All lit up! We added the under cabinet lighting when we built the house. Why it wasn’t standard to have lighting over the sink and island, I don’t know…

IMG_0522IMG_0508IMG_0516 IMG_0518 IMG_0521

I also forgot to mention a sweet little Christmas present that I got from Michael. A pretty gold necklace with a “M”…It’s simple and I love it.IMG_0542

My actual birthday, Logan took the day off work and we pretty much spent the day eating. We went to a few new local restaurants in our little town of Fuquay-Varina. We had lunch at a new sushi place. Then we went to a new craft beer/wine/espresso bar. And dinner at a delicious Italian place where we’d never been. It was a great day with my boys!IMG_9208IMG_9205

Michael- 13 Months

January 9, 2015…Michael is 13 months old.

Our little man is a toddler now? What?!! He started sleeping through the night on a regular basis shortly before turning one…which is AWESOME. And for some reason after his birthday he decided sleeping and falling asleep wasn’t his thing anymore, just another one of those phases. He still scoots everywhere, talks a lot, and eats a lot.

We watched Ole Miss in the Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl. Michael was yelling loud for the Rebels! What a terrible game, unfortunately.IMG_9224

IMG_9261IMG_9228IMG_9248IMG_9258

I tried to put him down for a nap during the game (for the second time that day). As you can see here, it didn’t go very well… IMG_9267

He still loves to laugh at Motly-

The next day was Logan's game. Auburn vs. Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl. Unfortunately...again, no win.

Giving Guinness kisses…both cats are so good with Michael. SO good…It is really sweet.IMG_9354 IMG_9356 IMG_9358

All day, every day…this kid is laid out on the floor. He falls and hits that head so much. I know, the bumps and bruises happen…and they happen a lot around here. IMG_9364IMG_9367

One of my favorite videos. I love his jibber jabber! And I guess we can call this Michael’s first official word. He signs ‘more’ when he wants more food. He’s been doing it for a while and I wanted to get it on video, but of course he doesn’t do it for the camera. But he does say “Hi–shh.”

Christmas 2014

We had a very nice Christmas in North Carolina with my parents and Uncle J.T.  We enjoyed having J.T. here at our house and showing him around UNC and Duke. My mom and I got manicures together on Christmas Eve, and we all ate very well both Christmas Eve and Christmas day. And of course we loved showering Michael with gifts on Christmas morning and playing all day.

Scofield is curious about this dancing gingerbread man, too.

Michael's gift from Santa- A Cozy Truck, books, and balls. We planned to just order the truck online...but then we were walking by the toy section of Walmart one night and I notice a stack of those little trucks with a sign above reading $35. I told Logan, grab a truck now, we are going to the register because they have to honor that price! Sure enough, they did. Their mistake turned into a nice deal for us! Now THAT was a good Walmart trip!

Pre-Christmas

We had another small party here in NC for Michael so he could celebrate with his little neighborhood friends. It was also the weekend we decided to decorate the house for Christmas. I’ll never do both in the same weekend again. Too much! Way too much. It just happened this way because of traveling one weekend, Logan’s drill weekend the next, so this was really the only time available. Then we have Christmas!…maybe a late November party should be the plan every year…

Decking the Halls!

Logan did the stair rail. He did a great job and faster than I’ve ever decorated the rail!

I've always wanted to display our Christmas cards we sent from all the past years. Logan thought of this idea and did it all himself.

I wanted to do something artsy with Michael’s hand print for Mimi and Grandma. So, I looked to Pinterest of course! We had our little art session with Michael and made a hand-print Christmas tree. I’m so glad I waited on a day that Logan was home to help. If I did this by myself, I would’ve had paint EVERYWHERE. It was fun!IMG_8921IMG_8919

This one didn't turn out to look like a tree, so we did another one. But Logan looked at it and said, "It looks like the Grinch." I thought, okay whatever.

And The Grinch. Logan is so good. He did not trace anything. He looked at a photo of the Grinch and just painted this on top of Michael’s smears.

First Birthday Party

Michael’s first birthday party was in Oxford on Thanksgiving weekend. We decided it would be really fun to have his party with our families. It was ten days before his actual birthday. We had a great time with everyone!

I had a lot of fun decorating for the party. I considered a few themes but changed my mind. I just wanted it bright and colorful and centered around turning one.

IMG_8504

IMG_8506

IMG_8511

I had to get this little chalkboard made early, so his stats are a little off. He had his 12 month doctor appointment the day after he turned one. He was 29.25in tall- 19lbs- with 7 teeth.

IMG_8509

I had everyone sign this Dr. Seuss book. I saw this on Pinterest and thought it was a great idea.

IMG_8508

I ordered both cakes from a local bakery in Oxford. I was very happy with how they turned out. I just sent them a photo from Pinterest for his smash cake and I made the little banner for the top. I told them I wanted a cupcake cake in the shape of the number 1 that matched the colors on the invitation. They did a great job! After seeing photos of cakes they made, I felt comfortable with just letting them be creative and do whatever design they wanted.IMG_8502IMG_8512
